The DEESA (Department of Agrarian Economy and
Sociology Studies) is one of the 14 Estaçâo Agronomica Nacional
Departamento. The Estaçâo Agronomica Nacional, located in
Oeiras, near Lisbon, is a national centre of research. The DEESA is composed
of 12 elements holding doctorate degrees. It should be stressed that DEESA
has a policy which stimulates the development of strong communication
linkages with other institutions, both at the national and the regional
levels, in the research and policy making worlds : University of Lisbon,
Tras-os-Montes e Alto Douro and Algrave, national and regional departments
of Agriculture Ministry.
The Department DEESA has been involved in several research projects, some
of them involving European partnerships. Among the research topics are
:
- adding value to traditional and labelled farm products,
- diversification of the rural economy in mountain areas,
- analysis of rural and farming systems.
