Main objectives :
The "Unidad de Economia Agraria" is a department dealing with agricultural economics which is part of a research institute (Servicio e Investigacion Agraria) depending from the regional government (Diputacion General de Aragon). It is an institution fully dedicated to undertake research and with close linkages with the regional agrofood system. The "Unidad de Economía Agraria" has around 20 people, including researchers and postgraduate students undertaking doctoral and master theses. In Spain, it is considered as one of the best research institutes focused in agriculture.
Our research funds come from regional, national and international sources. There are research projects dealing with the 4 PDO, 1 PGI and 1 quality label of the region. Technological and management transfer is of a great concern and one of the final objectives. More in detail :

there is a project funded by the regional government of Aragon. It deals with the agrofood industries of the region, with particular emphasis about the reasons behind their localisation, innovation and general development. We are analysing with more care industries related to origin labelled products.
we are also involved in the evaluation of the generic campaigns dealing with the regional origin labelled products. This work is funded by the regional government. In that respect, we have worked with consumers, agrofood industries, the distribution channels and agricultural producers.
there is another project funded by the national sources which deals with the elements that determine competition between in small and medium agrofood industries. It covers not only this region but also other regions of the North of Spain.
